2 Door or 4 Door ?

If You Had to Have 1 Sport Car for the Rest of Your Life, Would You Prefer A Coupe or Sedan?

What was discussed:

Which would you have?

When it comes to choosing a car, many people decide based on practicality. For car enthusiasts, the decision to buy a car is not exactly about what’s practical. It could come down to things like performance, speed or even engine size. Especially if the decision is regarding a sports car. But what if you had to decide on the one car that you’d have to keep for a lifetime and the decision is between a fast coupe or a fast sedan.

Is this a hard choice ?

How do you choose between a coupe or a sedan? What’s the difference anyway? Well in previous years this was an easy question to answer. However, as time has shifted and vehicle design becomes even more complex, many automakers have somewhat blurred the line between these two body styles.

The Layout

Typically, a sedan has four doors and its engine bay, passenger cabin, and trunk space are all separated from one another. This is an example of a three-box design because the three components are physically divided. A coupe, on the other hand, has a 2 door setup, a fixed roof, and, as with a sedan, is also a three-box design.

Fast Coupe

Your choice of a lifetime sportscar to speed around in may depend on your lifestyle. So, it may be based on practicality after all. If you want to confidently speed across the highway with only your lover by your side, then a fast coupe like the 2018 Corvette C7 Z06 may be your choice. A coupe is smaller and is usually easier to control. With a 6.2L supercharged V8 engine and 650 horsepower, this beauty typically weighs around 3500 pounds. It may have you feeling like you own the road with the ability to go from 0 to 60 in 2.95 seconds.

The Perfect Choice ?

The 2018 Corvette C7 Z06’s advanced carbon-ceramic brake rotors comfortably takes you right back to zero. Its trunk space is on average 15 cubic feet which is higher than most luxury sportscars. It can comfortably hold 2 large suitcases and 2 smaller ones, which makes it a great option for a romantic weekend getaway. The interior carries performance-supporting elements which indicate unique attention to detail and build quality as each vehicle interior is wrapped with premium, soft-touch material.

Other examples of fast coupes include the BMW M6 Coupe which is powered by a 4.4-liter twin-turbo engine packing 560 horsepower or the more muscular Dodge Challenger Scatpack which packs 485 horsepower.

There is more where that came from

Fast Sedan

But if your intention is to take your kids for an exhilarating ride, then a fast sedan has more space to share some family fun. The 2018 Audi RS7 is a great example of a fast sedan that handles well. It comes with a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 engine that makes 560 horsepower, a performance-tuned eight-speed automatic transmission, all-wheel drive, and a lowered suspension. It easily missiles from 0 to 60 in 3.2 seconds which is a little slower than the Corvette coupe.

Fun For Four

Since the 2018 Audi RS7 is a sedan, it’s heavier than the 2018 Corvette C7 Z06 by almost 1000 pounds, weighing approximately 4,400 pounds. However, it can comfortably seat four persons including the driver, a feat the coupe would not be able to accomplish. The Audi has a larger luggage capacity of 24 cubic feet which means it’s great for family vacations.  It has a luxurious interior with comfortable sport seats, racy-looking trim details, and exacting interior panels which all speak to quality and performance.

Another example

The Mercedes C63 AMG Sedan is also a great fast sedan that accelerates from 0 to 60 in 3.8 seconds which is quite impressive.

In Closing

The fact is, if you had to choose one car that would serve you for a lifetime, you’d consider all the factors that will suit your lifestyle – whether a speedy 2-door coupe or fast luxurious sedan. But never forget that the best choice would be the one that will help you create lasting memories!

Hello! My name is Javaughn Barrow, a young car enthusiast who writes all the articles for Karcandy.com. I’ve written over 50 articles about automobiles. With each article, I deepen my understanding and expertise in writing and the automotive world. Ever since childhood, I’ve always had a strong passion for cars. All types shapes and sizes were interesting to me. I’d spend most of my time after school researching cars and the more I found out about them the more exciting it was. In my teens, I created a fan page about corvettes posting content at least ten times a day! Yes, I was crazy about it. The page ended up garnering over 40k followers! After a while, I wanted more than a fan page. I wanted to express my passion differently. I wanted to create more helpful content, higher-quality content. My first car was a 2013 VW CC Sport. Learned very quickly car ownership wasn’t as expected. I spent a lot of time replacing control arms, cam position sensors, brake rotors, brake pads, etc. Walking away with more information than I knew before. As I was growing in my automotive journey I was learning about writing. Starting by writing a detailed outline about 300 words long then I would pay a professional to write a full 1000-word article and learn from them getting familiar with the process of writing. The moment I realized I could use my writing skills to express my passion for cars and help people simultaneously, I started Karcandy.com. I realized with my unique perspective coupled with my hard work discipline and work ethic I can create a space online to help bridge the gap between the complicated and simple in the automotive world. I’m motivated by the challenges and work it will take to create such a space. My work ethic is something I choose to refine and make better each day. I think it’s important to push myself and stay committed to my evolution as a human and this website is only one of the results of that.
